Time management strategerizing

I chose to read The Important Habit of Just Starting by Jory Mackay not because it was the first option on the list, but because I felt like I could relate to what the title was saying. For me starting a project is the hardest part of it. Once I get started I don't like to stop until it's finished. I thought it was interesting when Jory Mackay mentioned in the article that us trying to concentrate in today's society is like a kid trying to diet in a candy store. It can be very difficult with all the distractions at our fingertips. For me, I am constantly doing something on my phone and have to leave it out of sight when I have a lot to do. Jory Mackay mentioned trying to set aside scheduled times to work on something like from 3-5 pm do homework. So 2 hours of work doesn't sound as bad as writing a short essay, even if the short essay would've only taken you 90 minutes to do.

The next article I read was Eat the Frog First Thing in the Morning by Thomas Oppong because it sounded funny. I had never heard of the expression, eat the frog, until reading this article. Apparently it stems from a Mark Twain quote, "If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first". The article talks about that quote and how the key to end procrastination is to just do it! Before you give yourself all day to dread doing a task, make yourself do it first thing in the morning. I will admit I've done this a few times and it works, but sometimes I like to enjoy my mornings and can't pull it off.

My favorite time management strategies are making checklists and to just keep moving. What I mean by just keep moving is when I feel tired and I don't want to study for a big science exam or start my 10 page paper, instead of calling it quits and watching a movie I knock out the easy stuff. I don't sit and stress about how I SHOULD be studying Physics right now. Instead, I knock out my brainless connect homework, do my laundry, and do all of my little assignments that I have for the week that don't require a lot of critical thinking. Because those little tasks don't scare me and I don't mind doing them when I'm tired. That way tomorrow when I do feel good I have plenty of time to work on my harder projects. I know this sounds like procrastination, but I like to think of it more as strategizing. I want to attempt the big stuff when I feel fresh.
